On October 12, 2024, Lagos achieved a major milestone with the official launch of the Lagos Red Line Rail Mass Transit, a 27-kilometer rail system designed to revolutionize urban mobility. Facilitated by First Metro, the project’s concessionaire, the inaugural ride, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, demonstrated the system’s readiness to ease Lagos' traffic woes. Stretching from Agbadoto Oyingbo, the rail line is expected to accommodate over 100,000 passengers daily, providing a faster, safer, and more sustainable commuting option while integrating seamlessly with other transit systems.
The event was graced by key stakeholders, including LAMATA’s Managing Director, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, and top First Metro executives. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of maintaining the rail's cleanliness and announced plans for additional train cars to improve efficiency. This launch highlights First Metro’s commitment to delivering impactful infrastructure projects and advancing Lagos’ vision for a seamless, eco-friendly transportation network.
